The Perfect Ivory Dress for Spring

    Spring

The sounds of birds chirping, leaves budding, flowers blooming, warmer breezes on longer sunny days that seem to tease the promise of dreamy times. That’s how I envision every Spring! Everything seems to come alive; people, critters, birds, nature.  For a brief moment in time, there’s a level of self-awareness because everyone is looking forward to the warmer temperatures and the trees taking on much heavier coverage. There’s something tranquil about this transition and yet euphoric.

With Spring also comes the celebration of Easter for many.  So here we are in April already and I am sharing this pretty white dress which will be the perfect dress for Easter and the outdoors.  Maybe a picnic possibly? We will have to see about that one….

    What I’m Wearing

There’s something so exciting about the warmer days in Spring that just makes me want to smile and run into the sun. I love to wear lighter colors and flowy outfits this time of year. This dress is just so simple and classic. You can easily dress it up with pumps or strappy heels and look amazing! I chose to wear this particular dress with minimal jewelry it highlights the simplicity of the dress. The flirty short puff sleeves are so light that they tease ever so slightly in the wind. You can almost always never go wrong with a lighter colored dress ever!!! This Gianni Bini dress is currently available at Dillards

I chose to accessorize the dress with this Coach crossbody bag (linked similar bag here and see my last post). Overall, I couldn’t be happier it’s Spring.  Now time for some much warmer weather and outdoor activities! What’s your favorite thing to do in the Spring? xo Louise

How to Find the Perfect Dress for Your Upcoming Holiday Events

This time of year always presents a little challenge when it comes to maintaining your personal style, while looking chic for the holidays. I have learned that you can never go wrong with a classic look when it comes to style.

Don’t you just wish it was acceptable to wear dresses like this every day?! I mean who doesn’t love a flattering and comfortable dress for the holidays? I especially love the v-neckline on this dress from Maggy London and the midi-length is complementary on anyone. It is the perfect outfit for any event and such a great dress for upcoming festivities. This dress fit so beautifully that I didn’t need any tailoring done so it was well worth it for me. Really, how pretty is the detailing and retro-inspired long sleeve on this dress?

You can never go wrong with a classic dress

I am obsessed with this one and I absolutely adore occasion wear! Any excuse to dress up around the holidays and I will! As a working mom, I usually dress in office wear on a day to day basis, sometimes investing in casual pieces for days with the family. However when it comes to events, knowing the dress code is important and that helps in planning the appropriate outfit for the event. I also like investing in dresses that can be worn multiple times and wouldn’t sit in my wardrobe for a one-time occasion.

A few tips for finding the perfect occasion wear

Regardless of your style, here are a few tips for finding the perfect occasion wear.

    • Look for outfits with clean and classic lines.
    • Do not show too much skin. Opt for long sleeves to stay warm during the holidays.
    • Do make an effort. Finding the right occasion wear dress takes planning and you want to find an outfit that is stunning without being too loud. This Diana Midi dress sparkles in the light without being out there. It is just gorgeous and super soft too!
    • Comfort! Invest in outfits that are comfortable because you will be wearing them for a while.

Three Changes I Made This Summer

There is always so much change each season that sometimes it warrants a need to make adjustments to what is important to us and our life. This past summer has been amazing, beautiful, and chaotic all at once.

Working mom: You have got to have a partnership in your careers

I have learned to embrace the challenges that come with being career-driven and a mom of two. You can definitely do it but it takes a lot of intentional planning and coordination. Beyond planning, just simply being there for my kids has been important so I am not apologizing for not being involved in their lives.

Life: Taking things a day at a time

Many times we get so caught up in the little things that can cause stress and see us running a million miles an hour.  I am still learning with this one but I have made a mental and conscious effort to just take things easy.  Life will always be hectic and chaotic and crazy but your outlook on how you choose to feel about the situation and turn it into a unique experience is your choice. I like to think of it as juggling multiple baskets — now if they are colorful, isn’t that just beautiful imagery?

    Healthy: Making Healthier Choices

I love food and I love the freedom that comes the many choices you can have when it comes to food.  Having a family, I have always been conscious about what we eat. Even when my kids were babies, I never bought the organic foods in a bottle. I would rather spend my evenings making my own using fresh fruits and vegetables and freezing. This past year, I got a little side tracked with some of our food choices. I guess too much happening all at once but c’est la vie (that’s life)! I am and always have been a firm believer that we are what we eat so the past couple weeks, we started making a couple adjustments and getting back into our old routine.  I can’t tell you enough how great it feels, even with something as little as incorporating smoothies or more vegetables into a diet. We made asparagus soup the other day and it took all but 20 mins and was so delicious that I will have to share that recipe and a couple more on the blog in the next few weeks. All it takes is a little prep and planning.

What lessons or changes did you learn this season? I would love to hear all about it in the comments below.

    Summer Diaries: Floral Dresses

What better time to kick off summer than to highlight some of my favorite items for the season! Fact: Summer is my favorite season of the year, and it’s no surprise since i grew up in a tropical country, Ghana. So fast forward and here I am in sunny Texas with temperatures anywhere from 90-100 degrees this time of the year.

But I know not all of you ladies are dealing with the crazy Texas temperatures, so dedicating this diary series to highlight some fun seasonal dresses and items for summer.

    This week I will be focusing on floral dresses, showcasing some of my favorite dresses. Today’s theme is florals, and starts with a shoot at the neighborhood park. There is something so beautiful about floral dresses (as seen here). When the weather gets warm, I often tend to lean more to simple dress shapes and favor florals as the print alone can really play up the silhouette. {Dress: MaxStudio Shoes: CharlesDavid Sunglasses: MichaelKors Purse: Fiorelli}

Depending on the occasion or mood it is easy to play with print proportions; from small floral prints that I find to be slightly dressy to larger prints which can be flirty and fun. Shop my dress and see some of my favorite summer floral dress picks below!
